Dropping Into Joy – 5 Things

Dropping Into Joy – 5 Things

1.        Song:  Late in the Evening by Paul Simon (So good!!!)

2.        A perfectly chilled beer

3.       A desert sunrise

4.       C says:  making Mom laugh

5.       T says:  waking up with my family

Today, this moment, there is joy.  Life is complex, at times overwhelming and there are so many moments that I’m thinking, planning, expecting, angsty…and that is real for all of us.

But joy…this feeling is rarer, more complex than happiness.  Joy is the deeper water in the river – and it embodies the essence of what we love and cherish.  It is also simple and can be experienced when we are present to the gifts in front of us and relax into the moments when we aren’t grasping towards the next thing. A moment of equilibrium.  The light in a tree, the smell of rain – these are simple things that provide profound appreciation and satisfaction with the world.  Sometimes we blow past these moments, sometimes it’s hard to drop into enjoyment because we don’t trust it, it doesn’t last.

Not today.  I am sitting in my Sunday house, my favorite vinyl on the record player…My brother is in town and we’ve had a great beach walk, rest of the family’s kicking around the house.  Sun is shining and the dog’s got a tennis ball in his mouth and we’re going to play.  Dropping in…
